Disability Survey 2007

 
   

 


The Secretariat General of the Planning Council in cooperation and coordination with the Supreme Council for Family Affairs commenced executing Disability Survey for the first time in the State of Qatar.

 
   


Field works for enumerating population, buildings and residential unties launched on 7 January 2007, where 230 enumerators, heads of group, inspectors and observers commenced collecting data of comprehensive frame including all households in the State. This frame will enable defining handicapped in Qatari and non-Qatari households and labor gatherings.

The work will last for (35) days, effective from 7 January 2007. Where households and labor gatherings containing handicapped, and It is expected to visit them during the second stage, during March 2007, to collect specialized social, cultural and economic data about each handicapped, via special form being developed by experts of the Planning Council, the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and the United Nations.

Disability survey is one of four surveys composing the Multi-Purpose Survey, which are, Household Expenditure and income Survey, Indebtedness Survey and Labor Force Survey. A joint committee between the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and the Planning Council is managing the survey.

The surveys second stage will be in March 2007, within the efforts of the Planning Council and the Supreme Council for Family Affairs to fill some statistical gaps of this group. It will as well help decision makers to acknowledge the reality of persons with special needs and present high quality technical services for them.

 Care for all citizens, especially persons with special needs, incorporate them within the society and providing them with descent life are one of the Qatari Government priorities. This goal will not achieved without a comprehensive survey, to know their number by disability size, age and geographic distribution, to provide with the appropriate service according to his/her geographic presence, capability and degree of disability.

These efforts, statistics and information will contribute in enabling decision makers in developing socio-economic development strategies, which are depending on accurate and comprehensive statistics and information, which will be available from such survey results and showing role of Qatar in care and rehabilitation of persons with special needs, whether citizens or expatriates

 
   

Disability survey aims to achieve the following aspects: 

 
   

Providing medical, psychological, cultural and social care for persons with special needs.

Enable them to obtain tools, devices, means of transportation and equipment that help them to learn, rehabilitate and move.

Enable them to participate in economic activity and join labor force, each with his/her capabilities.

Ensure their participation in decisions related to them.

Provide them with special facilities in public places.
