The Statistics Authority has releases the Digital Atlas of Qatar.
This is a step forward accomplishing the organization’s mandate
towards analyzing and disseminating the results of census and
surveys to its users in easy-to comprehend, practical and visual
format. The maps and geographic information included in this digital
atlas provide a comprehensive picture of Qatar’s overall
development, and also give an indication of some of the changes
which have occurred in last two decades.

Digital Atlas of Qatar is primarily a replica of the Qatar National
Atlas, published by the Statistical Department of the Planning
Council (now Statistics Authority) of the State of Qatar in 2006. In
addition, an important interactive mapping and GIS application named
as Map Maker has been added to this digital version which allows
users to draw general maps of his area of interest showing detailed
street network and more than four thousand landmarks of the country
in 2007. User can also draw different kind of thematic maps and
query statistical data interactively using available statistics from
1986- 2007 Census/Surveys at different area level.
The Atlas is bilingual in Arabic and English and has been organized
through four major sections titled as i) About Atlas, ii) Thematic
Maps, iii) Ortho Maps, and iv) Map Maker.
The first section contains an introduction to the main atlas besides
foreword, preface and references including glossary of terms used.
The second section includes 83 thematic maps of the country on
administrative setup, physiographic conditions, settlement pattern,
services & infrastructure, housing & households, population
characteristics and agriculture, industry& trade including tourism.
The Ortho Maps section contains very useful geographic information
presented through 234 ortho-map sheets belonging to the main
built-up areas of the country. The main street names in Arabic &
English and important landmarks of the country are shown in these
map sheets which can be viewed as PDF and printed in desired format.
The fourth section includes an interactive mapping & GIS application
named as Map Maker. It is a user friendly application targeted at
common users of statistics and geographic information in the
country. The geographic information made available belongs to the
end of December 2007 whereas the statistical information refers
primarily to the main census and surveys conducted by the Statistics
Authority during 1986- 2007.
Through this application user can select, query information and draw
general and thematic maps for his area of interest for viewing and
printing.
