During the meeting, QSA informed the students of the most important statistical data pertaining to the State of Qatar, the role of QSA, and the most significant products of data, brochures, and monthly as well as annual reports.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Sultan Al Kuwari, Director of Population and Social Statistics Department, welcomed the students, and explained that QSA
works on meeting user's needs of statistical data. This is to
support the formulation of evidence-based policies, and follow up
the developmental progress while adhering to international best
practices.
Al Kuwari said that the QSA is also working to provide official reference data about social, demographic, economic, environmental conditions, as well as to unify statistical concepts and definitions and to coordinate between data producers in the State so as to ensure the production of coherent an integrated statistics for national, regional and international use.
The Director of the Department of Population Statistics showed that the statistical work is distinctive and it deserves to be planned by students when joining the university for the professional advantages, the QSA provides.
The heads of sections of the management of population statistics in the QSA provided later a brief presentation about the work mechanism in different management sections.
At the end of the meeting the students raised a number of questions about the way to access to the statistical data on foreign workers. Mr Sultan Al Kuwari underlined that all detailed data about foreign workers since 2001, resides on the QSA web site, and also on the QALAM site for information exchange
