GDP in Qatar amounts to 96.2 billion QRs - second Quarter in year 2008

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) released the preliminary estimate of current price gross domestic product (GDP) for the second quarter of 2008 showing 60.8 percent increase over the second quarter of 2007. Qatar’s current price GDP reached 96.2 billion QRs in the second quarter.

The continuous rise in the price and production of crude oil and steadily increasing production of LNG pushed the energy related sectors upwards while having a flow on effect to the rest of the economy. Strong growth was seen across the whole economy. The contribution of the mining and quarrying industry still dominates Qatar’s GDP representing 63.4 percent of total GDP or 60.9 billion QRs in the second quarter of 2008, this was up from 32.9 billion QRs in the corresponding quarter of 2007. Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Banks Services represent the largest activity outside of the mining and quarrying industry with value added equal to 8.1 billion QRs, representing 8.5 percent of GDP. Government Services accounted for 7.9 percent of total GDP (7.6 billion QRs). Manufacturing value-added accounted for 8.2 percent of total GDP or 7.9 billion QRs.

QSA added that these figures remain provisional and will be revised as new data becomes available.
