Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin
Jassim Al Thani, QSA acting President, said the objectives of the
retreat were to learn about the components of the National Strategy
for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and QSA Departments’ annual
work plans.
Among its other objectives, he added, were to identify potential
challenges the departments might face while implementing the annual
plans and propose proper solutions, and to find out the extent to
which QSA plan is associated with QNV 2030 and other national
development plans as well as to create a suitable work environment
for promoting effective interaction among QSA staff to examine
issues related to QSA annual work plan and continuation of capacity
building efforts.
Sheikh Hamad said the expected outcomes of the retreat were to come
out with a report on the annual work plan and challenges faced, a
report on proposed solutions to meet the challenges facing work
plans, and proposal to improve work environment and mechanisms used.
The retreat findings will be submitted to QSA president and
directors and will be studied in order to develop mechanisms to
improve QSA performance and NSDS strategic goals and its related
work plans, added the president.
During the event, QSA Directors made presentations on their efforts
to translate NSDS into an annual work plan as well as the challenges
facing the implantation and ensuring comprehensive, accurate and
timely outputs. Their plans to meet challenges as well as adopt the
culture of steady development, and an assessment to whether QSA
plans satisfied data demand of QNV 2030 and other national
development plans were also among issued discussed in the retreat.
Participants were divided into working groups to answer a set of
questions designed to improve the implementation of the NSDS.
Most proposals made during the event focused on improving QSA
services and providing quality data in terms of accuracy, relevance,
usefulness, timeliness, accessibility, integrity, and comparability
with the national, regional and international standards as well as
ensuring timely delivery of data to public and private sectors. The
idea that QSA should adopt a plan for continuous training and
development to improve staff capacity building was also raised.
