The planned activities will start with a consultative meeting on
statistical capacity building and a workshop on culture statistics
in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. The events will
be concluded with a special meeting for partners concerned with the
culture statistics in the State of Qatar.
The organisation of these events, which will take place on 28 June
until July 1, come as implementation of objectives and activities of
the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and
efforts extended by HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani,
QSA Acting President, since he was selected by the UIS as member of
Board of Trustees to enhance and improve the Statistics status in
the Arab region in general, and in the State of Qatar in particular.
The GCC countries Consultative Meeting, which will be held on 28
June, aims at formulating a two-year work plan to enhance
capacity-building efforts in areas related to the work of the UIS.
High level statisticians, representing stakeholders, will
participate in the meeting. The workshop, which will kick off on
29-30 June 2009, is designed for statistics agencies and
organisations concerned with culture statistics.
QSA Acting President, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani,
will open the Consultative Meeting with a welcome address, followed
by a speech of Dr. Hamad Al Hamami, Director of the UNESCO regional
office in Doha. The Consultative Meeting will introduce to the
participants the 2008-2013 UIS mid term strategy, such as education,
literacy, science and technology. He will also identify joint
activities of cooperation between the stakeholders in the future.
The Director of Department of Demographic, Social & Statistical
Analysis, Mr. Sultan Al Kuwari, will open the training workshop that
aims at introducing to the participants the revised 2009 UNESCO
Framework for Cultural Statistics so that it can be applied in a
context that suits the GCC states.
The GCC representatives will deliver, in the workshop, presentations
on the culture statistics in the member states, problems facing
statistics in region and means of solving them.
