Results of Labor force Survey 2008

 
   

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) finalized the results of the Labor Force Sample Survey 2008, which is considered as one of the major annual surveys conducted by QSA. The survey aims at:

 
   


1. Estimation of the labor force in Qatar.

2. Distribution of the labor force according to the different characteristics; age, sex, education, marital status, economic activity, occupation, sector…etc.

3. Measuring the level of employment and unemployment in the State, as well as identifying the characteristics and patterns of unemployment

4. Measuring explicit and hidden partial unemployment and reasons behind it.

5. Examining the relationship between the occupation and educational specialization.

6. Investigating reasons behind youth's lack of interest in working for the private sector and handicrafts.

7. Studying the population out of labor force in terms of age, sex, nationality, education, marital status, desire to work, reasons of lack of desire to work and reasons for leaving previous work.

8. Establishing up-to-date database and provision of all necessary data and information needed for studies, comparisons and monitoring indicators at regional and international levels.

 A. Economically Active Population

 • Ratio of economically active persons to total population (15 years and above) is 87.4 %.

• Women participation rate in labor force is 50.4 % of all females (15 years and above).

• Qatari women participation rate in labor force is 36.4 % of all Qatari females (15 years and above).

 B. Employment Status

• Ratio of employers is 0.2% of total labor force.

• Ratio of own account (self employed) workers is 0.1 % of total labor force.

• Ratio of paid employees is 99.7% of total labor force.

On this occasion, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani praised the cooperation of families and individuals and its profound impact on the survey success, stressing that Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) is planning to create a mechanism that speeds up the completion of the upcoming similar surveys for users' benefit in light of the rapid changes in the Qatari labor market.

 His Excellency Sheikh Hamad pointed out that the field operations for the upcoming Labor Force Sample Survey will start in October this year. He predicted that preliminary results will be released before the end of this year. Sheikh Hamad also mentioned that QSA experts are currently preparing an analytical summary of the 2008 survey results showing main findings and changes in comparison to previous surveys.
