With participation from data producers and government institutions as well as representatives from the public, private and mixed sectors, GCC statistical organizations, United Nations agencies and Paris 21, etc,. Qatar Statistics Authority will conduct a high level meeting on mainstreaming sectoral statistical systems in the implementation of the NSDS.

The event scheduled to be held from 12 to 13 October 2009 at the Four Seasons Hotel is expected to be inaugurated by H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani, acting President of QSA.

The meeting is seen as part of QSA efforts to implement the second phase of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS). It will focus on the fourth NSDS strategic goal related to producer-producer coordination and supplier/respondent cooperation and seek to harmonize and standardize statistical activities and to generate a coherent, integrated set of statistics in Qatar.

The objective of the meeting is to learn about the best practices to incorporate sectoral statistics into the national statistical system in order to produce quality and timely data in accordance with internationally recognized definitions and classifications; and to agree on a sustainable mechanism for data production of secrtoral statistics and ensure smooth flow of data to various users to assist them in formulating the national development.

It is worth noting that the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics is a national ownership for QSA and other parties concerned with statistics in Qatar. Its activities will be implemented within the period spanning from 2008 to 2013.
