More than 300 nominees attended the training secessions, of whom 240
were carefully selected as inspectors, head of teams and data
collectors to perform the duties of the survey
The survey's fieldwork activities will commence as of today, Sunday,
October 04, 2009, lasting for a period of one month, during which
data will be collected covering all households, individuals and
labor gatherings included in the survey’s sample, distributed among
the different Municipalities, Zones and Blocks.
The result of this survey are expected to meet the requirements of
QSA and other decision makers and researchers with regard to labor
force characteristics. The survey will provide an integrated data
base that helps in setting up harmonized policies between
educational outputs and labor market through labor market plans and
strategies. The survey general objectives are:-
1- Estimating the size of labor force
2- Defining characteristics of labor force.
3- Measuring size of employment and unemployment, identifying
characteristics and attitudes of unemployed in order to:
- Follow up changes in employment and
unemployment rates, specially among Qataris
- Studying social and economic
characteristics of the labor force, focusing on the unemployed
- Drawing policies and setting up programs
to encounter unemployment.
4- studying the relation between occupation and educational
specialization
5- To look into the reasons for the refrainment of young people of
join the private sector and to take handicraft occupations
6- Building up-to-date data base and providing all information and
statistics needed for carrying out comparisons and monitoring
indicators at local, regional and international levels.
On this occasion H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jabor Bin Jassim Al Thani,
acting president of QSA, confirmed that this survey is being
conducted annually as per the strategy of QSA and the survey's
results will be announced earlier this time. As usual, it will be
posted on QSA website.
H.E. requested all households and individuals to cooperate with the
field enumerators by furnishing them with the correct and precise
information.
Also, Mr. Sultan Ali Al Kuwari, (Survey Manager) Director of
Population and Social Statistics Department, QSA, emphasized that
all preparatory works were completed, including questionnaire
design, concepts and instructions manuals as per local and
international standards. Up-to-date GIS maps will be used to locate
buildings. Specific standards were set to select field enumerators,
including educational qualifications, attending intensive training
sessions and passing selection tests.
