Qatar Statistics Authority was recognized and honoured along with 150 other organizations out of more than 100,000 applications from different agencies in the world.
The basis of QSA being selected for this special award for use of GIS technology is mainly for use of GIS in Census 2010 and other statistical operations. These include:
Base Map- Preparing detailed digital Base Maps using on-line geographic information available through SDE databases maintained by Qatar GISnet.
PDA- Integrating all geographic base layers into PDA, used first time in the region for General Census.
Geocoding Addresses- A geocoding service is created using ArcGIS.
Geo-Statistics Application- Using a GIS software, a Web Based application has been developed for the statistical data users to brows the statistics based on the geographic distribution in a map format in addition to search and locate the landmarks like schools, malls and petrol stations, beside locating the streets as well as to facilitate the Census Operations including field work monitoring of Census Charge areas .
Qatar Atlas- Under preparation Qatar Atlas 2010 to display and analyse Census 2010 results in relation to environmental and other non-geographic factors, in printed and digital format.
On-Line Data Dissemination to Qatar GISnet- Sharing the Census 2010 results on-line through Qatar GISnet.
The Geo-Statistics Application which is been presented in the conference for the attendees, is going to be available for the users through QALM portal to support their mapping needs.
This recognition for Statistics Authority and GIS technology implementation at international forum emphasizes a well coordinated and supervised Nationwide GIS setup established in Qatar through the Centre for GIS (CGIS), Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Development.
