QSA Encourages Future Statisticians
 

 
   

    

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has launched jointly with Qatar University (QU) Statistics Program a Statistics Poster Contest which is the first of its kind.The initiative which was launched last October aims to increase students’ statistics awareness, its relevance to scientific research, and the development of statistical reasoning among future statisticians.

 
   


An award ceremony was held on December 13, 2011 to honor the contestants in the presence of QSA officials, QU faculty staff and students, as well as a large number of research institutions. A panel of four judges rated the posters and selected the winners. All participants received valuable prizes and were awarded with certificates.

 Main objectives

• Recognize importance of statistics, statisticians and students of statistics program.

• Build and sustain a statistically literate society

• Promote QSA as an official data provider and as an organization that supports research activities in Qatar.

• Support and enhance relationship with education institutions.

• Support and nurture young minds.

• Motivate students to use QSA website/QALM portal and encourage them analyze data released by QSA.

• Create interest among students to join QSA following their graduation. This objective would also support Qatarization program in QSA.

• Develop research culture among students.

• Exchange of experience among academic research institutes in Qatar.

Project Development

• QSA announced its first Statistics Poster Contest.

• 12 students (sophomore, junior and senior) showed their interest, formed 6 teams and participated in the contest.

• QSA provided students with the data required for their analysis.

• Students finalized their projects and submitted the final posters to QSA.
