Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April 2012. The CPI for the month of April, 2012 was 109.9, showing stability when compared to the CPI of March 2012, but an increase of 1.1%, when compared to the CPI of April, 2011. |

A comparison with the CPI of March 2012,
displayed stability at the overall level, but an analysis at the major group level, showed that increases in some groups were offset by drops in others: The 1.1% increase in “Furniture, Textiles, & Home Appliances”, the 0.4% rise in “Entertainment, Recreation & Culture and Medical care & Medical services”, Food & beverages increase by 0.2%, were offset by drops in other groups, such as the index for Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 0.6%, Rent, Fuel and Energy by 0.5%, and Garments and Footwear, by 0.3%.
A year-on-year comparison, , showed an increase of 1.1% when comparing the CPI of April 2012 with that of April 2011. There were increases in all the major groups, with the exception of “Rent, Fuel and Energy”, which registered a drop of 6.2%. The highest increases were recorded in the group “Miscellaneous Goods and Services”, 6.5%; followed by “Entertainment, Recreation & Culture”, 6.4%; “Furniture, Textiles, & Home Appliances” by 5.1%. Increases in the remaining groups were between 3.8% in food & beverages and 1.3% in transport & communications.
A CPI exclusive of the Rent, Fuel and Energy group has
also been calculated. After eliminating the effect of rent, the
overall index reached 122.1, showing an increase of 0.2% compared to
the CPI of March 2012, and an increase of 3.8 % when compared to the
month of April 2011.
