QSA Holds a Technical Meeting on Population Projections up to 2030 and Develop a Vision on Population Evolution in the State
 

 
   

    

QSA organized a technical meeting on population projections in the State of Qatar up to 2030, attended by all State's concerned entities, whether services or planning ones.

 
   


The Meeting aims to introduce population projections prepared by QSA Statistics and the General Secretariat for Development Planning, in terms of the methodology and projections techniques; to identify opinions and ideas of all relevant entities; to provide a detailed explanation of assumptions and scenarios used in projections; to emphasize that QSA is the official source of population projections in the State of Qatar; also to emphasize that these projections will be updated every two years in cooperation with concerned authorities; and to provide data and indicators on projections proposed for Qatari and non Qatari.

HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor Al Thani, QSA President, opened the Meeting stressing the importance of these projections in providing a common framework, that enables both public and private sectors to plan based on concrete evidence, particularly that is associated with the National Development Strategy for 2010-2030. Moreover, he stressed that these projections will help in development planning for a wide range of services in all sectors.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the State is on the verge of undertaking major projects over the coming years, which requires a large influx of immigrant labor, and thus will cause significant population growth. He underscored that these projections will reflect that growth too. This is because it relied on main projects in the State and that are scheduled to be implemented through the approaching years, and because questionnaires have been sent to the entities involved in these projects, to gather relevant data, such as budgets, expected number of labors and time required for implementing each project.

In conclusion, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor Al Thani accentuated that QSA will be the official source of these projections at the State level. After that detailed power points were presented by specialists in QSA and the General Secretariat for Development Planning. It focused on methodologies and techniques used in calculating population projections for Qatari and non Qatari. Then data and indicators on the assumptions and scenarios used in preparing projections were displayed.

Before the end of the Meeting, all participating entities exchanged their thoughts, and highlighted the importance of these projections as well as the need to update them periodically.
